In the past few week, concern has been raised regarding the financial viability of the FasTracks funding model. This is due to duel staff reports detailing rising construction costs and lower than anticipated sales tax revenues. These concerns were heightened by a report in the Denver Post which indicated that a very preliminary staff analysis projected FasTracks would come in at $2 billion over budget: http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_5390405.

With RTD staff claiming that the budget picture is not nearly as dire, and that they have some creative suggestions for addressing any identified deficit, the Board is scheduled to get a full briefing on the status of the FasTracks budget at a special Board retreat on May 19.
