The May 19 RTD Board retreat is fast approaching . . . and it really is setting-up to be quite a seminal moment for the FasTracks program:

John Tayer, Boulder’s relatively new representative on the Regional Transportation District Board of Directors, will need his calculator this weekend to reevaluate projected costs of the FasTracks mass transit project.

Voters in the RTD area approved a sales tax increase in 2004 to pay for a $4.7 billion (before interest) package of Denver metro area rail and bus transit improvements – but certain RTD area residents got a bit of a shock several months ago when they read published reports saying new estimates were possibly closer to $6.5 billion.

Tayer, along with the rest of the RTD board and certain members of RTD staff, will attend a retreat on Saturday to discuss various transit issues – but Tayer said FasTracks finance will probably be the “highlight” of the meeting.
