BOLT and J Update
24Jun07
Here’s the latest on efforts to save critical elements of the BOLT and J routes, as well covered in the Daily Times-Call: http://www.longmontfyi.com/region-story.asp?ID=17025.
I was pleased that the RTD Board voted unanimously for my amendment that creates the opportunity to save additional service frequencies for the BOLT and J routes. Specifically, the amendment provides that RTD staff and local representatives from the cities of Longmont, Boulder and Boulder County will meet to reassess which hours of operation will run at high frequencies. The amendment also provides a mechanism for staffing any subsequent service adjustments.

John,
How was the input from members of the public at the Longmont hearing on the J and BOLT presented to the Board? How did the Board respond to that input? Specifically:
- that the count of boardings used to decide the service cuts was not representative of current ridership levels.
- multiple requests to maintain the current span of service – so that people. commuting to work had rides in both directions – before and after work
- request for a “challenge period” (of two to four months?) so that employers, neighborhoods and jurisdictions have a chance to better market the two routes – to be able to get ridership on more individual runs up to the service standard where RTD will retain them. It was expressed that the J, in particular, was not nearly as well marketed as the BOLT.
- request that RTD spell out how many additional boardings were needed to retain each of the routes proposed to be cut.
- request that RTD spell out how many additional boardings are needed overall to retain each route in its entirety.
These are just some of the requests that I recall, RTD staff has a more detailed and complete list for you.
Thanks for letting us know how this all transpired with the Board and how the Board as a whole responded to the input gathered for them by staff from the public.
Sincerely,
David Cook
