Transportation Advisory Board
After leaving the city staff, I served for five years on the City of Boulder Transportation Advisory Board (TAB), four years as Chair. TAB members review everything from bike-path configurations to roadway safety improvements. Most critically, I worked with my fellow TAB members to integrate all of the various travel modes into a network that maximized the efficiency of the entire transportation system. I took great pride, in particular, in our expansion of high-frequency bus routes, like the JUMP and the BOUND, that are so valuable to transit users in Boulder County.
It was during my tenure on TAB that Boulder took its first look at FasTracks and the package of transit services this ballot initiative would offer to Boulder County. I was proud to join with my fellow TAB members as we rose above parochial interests to embrace a regional vision for transit investment. The result was TAB support for the Locally Preferred Alternative that brings both commuter rail and bus-rapid-transit (BRT) service to Boulder County. My fellow TAB members also joined together in advocating for enhanced bus service to connect with these regional transit systems.
Additionally, as a member of TAB, I had the chance to learn more about the special transportation needs of older adults and people with disabilities in our community. I gained an understanding of the travel options available for people with limited mobility and I became committed to ensuring access to public transit for all our citizens. I had the opportunity, in particular, to advocate for additional funding in support of transportation services for our seniors in the update to the Transportation Master Plan.
